Syria

Our local festival Spijkerrok invited me to collaborate with Rihab Azar, a talented young musician from Syria. She plays the oud and handpicked the song When it’s over from my album Fighting Wildfires, for she felt the message of the song most resonated with her and the situation she and her friends and family are in.

Ladies of the Lowlands

Ladies of the Lowlands is somewhat of a phenomenon already, and we’ve only sung little over a minute together in the public eye… (or should I say ear?) No TV? Did you somehow miss Twitter or Facebook this week? Well, here are a few links to what you missed. Watch us talk and sing in De Wereld Draait Door HERE. More? HERE you’ll find a backstage performance before Nico Dijkshoorn who had the most lovely remark at the end haha. And THIS is what Fink had to say about our cover of his Perfect Darkness. This Tuesday we’ve sold out Luxor Live in Arnhem completely and I am so much looking forward to this night. No ticket? BNN That’s live will broadcast the Ladies of the Lowlands on 3FM this Saturday (June 1st) at 18h.

Ode to my mother

Around this time two years ago my mother got really ill. One afternoon I sat with her in her garden. The sun was shining and the trees were full op promising green. And suddenly I was hit by this enormous feeling of gratitude that I still had time with my mom. This feeling was so big I poured it into a song. The song became “Hey, the sun’s here”. It’s the final track on my latest album Fighting Wildfires. It’s an ode to how she raised me. When I sang it to her she was so touched by it. I was so happy I could convey my gratitude to her… and I got an idea.
