I tend to get so nervous before performing. Seriously, most people can’t see it from the outside, but I start dying 10 minutes before I get on stage. By then I’m also seriously questioning my sanity for choosing this line of work. The one thing that seems to work
so far is drinking lots of wine before going on stage. But I thought, there has to be another way. Recently I read Tori Amos’ biography in which she shares how she has a ritual before each concert. Really, she’s thanking all wind directions and burning sage and what not. That’s a bit much and sudden for me to start burning herbs before each concert, but tonight at a private concert I thought, hey, I need my own ritual. So out of the blue I started thanking lots of influences that have made my songs to what they are today. And within minutes that took away all the nonsense energy that ego and fear seem to create each time and I had a blast. I can recommend it to anyone, do you have a big presentation coming up, or something else you’re really nervous about? Try it, it can be anything. Let me know if it works for you. Here’s my FACEBOOK PAGE if you want to share anything with me.
